Facts about tissue donation.
For over twenty years, Northwest Tissue Services has been the premier provider of tissue services to the Northwest healthcare community. During that time, we have come to the aid of thousands of residents in Washington, Northern Idaho and Montana by supplying needed tissue that saved or enhanced their lives.
The donation of bone allows for grafts that can renew a cancer patient's lost bone and help prevent amputation. Replacing a failed heart valve can be life saving. Transplanting ligaments and tendons that repair injured knees and ankles give patients back their mobility. Each year, new discoveries are being made on how to transplant many types of tissues.
Tissue donation involves a surgical procedure to recover the donated tissues. It does not disfigure the body, nor will it affect funeral arrangements, allowing for an open casket viewing if so desired. Additionally, the donation process does not cost anything to the donor's family.
